My primary care physician ordered an ultrasound for a cyst on my thyroid gland. I had the ultrasound at Mayfair diagnostics and based on the results, a needle biopsy was recommended. I booked an appointment with CDC to conduct the biopsy as this is a procedure Mayfair does not do. The technician at CDC, indicated that the original technician at Mayfair, had not graded the cyst properly, and as a result, there was no need for a biopsy. I was confused by this conclusion and requested to speak with the radiologist. I was pleased that she was willing to speak with me. She explained their decision and answered all my questions. I appreciated her accessibility; however, I was still concerned by the difference in opinions, and the stated lesser capability of the other technician. I thought that this was an odd explanation to provide and left me with a feeling of uncertainty. Who was correct in their assessment? This experience highlighted the importance of asking questions and following up. I am grateful that I have an excellent primary care physician and will follow up with them regarding this.
