"Billing for Treatment and Monitoring"

About: Alberta Health

(as the patient),

Alberta Government did not negotiate or talk to eye doctors and issued OPTO 35 reducing reimbursement for optical services, including monitoring of glaucoma and delisting some services.  As a result of this reduction, without any consultation, the eye doctors are not being paid enough to cover their costs.

I am very angry as the Canada Health Act indicates there should be no cost for seeing a doctor for a medical condition.  My last visit to monitor my glaucoma cost me $80.

Hello Araer39,

Thank you for sharing your story about the funding changes for eye health monitoring. We recognize how important it is to feel heard when it comes to healthcare experiences, and we truly appreciate your voice.

While we strive to notify all service providers mentioned in stories, unfortunately, at this time the best we can offer is to include your story in the data shared with health care. Telling your story plays an important role in improving healthcare by bringing attention to real experiences and fostering dialogue.

We are grateful for your voice. Thank you for being part of this important dialogue.

Warm regards,
The Care Opinion Moderation Team
