"Amazing Care Through Sudden Diagnosis"

About: Cross Cancer Institute / Surgical Millwoods Medicentre Royal Alexandra Hospital / Surgical University of Alberta Hospital / Emergency

(as the patient),

At the end of February I was in severe abdominal pain. After a call to 811, I went to the U of A emergency department. I had looked it said 4-5 hour wait. It did take 20 hours but that’s due to the shear volume of people coming in. The staff and Dr Hoshizski were amazing! I was told I had a sizable mass on my left ovary. Within 3 weeks I had my appointment at the Cross Cancer. Again nothing but incredible staff and immediate confidence in my gynecologist oncologist Dr Sabourin and team! My surgery was set for 37 days after discovery. My surgery was at the Lois Hole Hospital. Again the care I received was top notch, kind, thorough, competent and a blessing! My gp Dr Adedayo has been aware of everything and assumed care of my staples and incision care. He is very thorough and conscientious in his care of me. Throughout this experience I have encountered nothing but the highest level of professionalism, dedication, kindness, competence, and they did this under obvious staff shortages. Not once did I hear complaints, grumbling or anything negative about that as well I never felt like I was just another patient, extra work or dismissed.  In fact when I was in emergency I heard the nurses, doctors and support staff lift each other up with encouragement and praises and they treated all the patients the way they treated me.

I am so impressed with everyone I have encountered and been cared for by throughout this experience.
