My friend and myself, both from out of province, attended an event on April 24th, 2025. The next day, early afternoon, my friend said she needed to go back to the hotel. When I went inside, about 1/2 hour later, I found her throwing up . She told me she had been vomiting for 1/2 hr. and could not stop. I went to the nearest drug store to get an over the counter remedy; I came back and she was still throwing up; she took the medication I brought her and threw it back up right away; she was feeling very weak. I did not feel comfortable driving her to an ER department in Calgary, so I dialed 911. After saying I needed an ambulance, I was transferred to someone who asked quite a few questions; I believe that I then spoke to a nurse and was transferred again to the a paramedic who said an ambulance was on it's way. They arrived around 10 minutes later, put the cardiac monitor on, started an IV and administered antiemetic medication; the vomiting stopped, the paramedics stayed with her for close to an hour while the IV solution was infusing, approx. 500cc's. They left and I checked on her throughout the evening and night.
We were both very pleased with the paramedics' intervention and their caring attitude, It prevented my friend from being transferred to an ER where she probably would have waited for who knows how long. The paramedics were competent to deal with the situation and stayed with her until her condition was stable. They told me to not hesitate to call back should there be a change in her condition.
