Our journey started with my wife always feeling tired, no energy and she is usually very energetic. Both of us haven’t seen or required the need for medical services for last 10+ years. Finally we decided to attend Emergency Centre at Lethbridge Regional and after 6 hours of waiting we were attended by a physician. She was diagnosed with Anemia and the doctor was excellent and was determined to locate why her iron level was so low.
Long story short - after cumulative 30+ hours visiting the Emergency Centre and eventually been diagnosed with Colon cancer, within 2 weeks she was operated on and discharged after 4 days of post surgery care.
The total direct out of pocket cost was less than $100.00 for various medications, both pre and post surgery. We still have our home and are not facing medical bankruptcy for the care we received!!!
Overall we can’t praise enough the hospital staff, surgeon etc. who provided highly professional, caring service and support to us.
I would argue extensively that our PUBLIC HEALTH SYSTEM is not broken, but it would appear to me it is being shackled for political reasons, their plan is to make the our current health care system appear ineffective and then the private health insurance industry will look like the best option.
