A few weeks after having our baby, we were experiencing latching issues due to his prominent lip and tongue ties.
I independently sought out a lactation consultant and booked an appointment at Circle Medical at Copperfield. Unfortunately, the entire experience, from the initial visit to their numerous follow-up calls, left us feeling judged, dismissed, and even accused, rather than supported.
We followed every recommendation made during the consultation: we immediately introduced formula, sourced a new hospital-grade breast pump, and even went as far as to secure donor breast milk. I communicated all of this to the lactation consultant during our first follow-up call. Despite this, we received repeated, insistent phone calls demanding additional in-person follow-ups—calls that continued even after we explained that our combination feeding plan was working and our baby was thriving.
When we clearly stated that we would not be returning, the consultant insisted that my midwife send her “proof of baby weight gain,” which felt invasive and unnecessary given that our baby’s health was not in question.
The entire experience was incredibly discouraging at a time when we needed compassion and support.
I sincerely hope that this consultant, and others in your practice, reconsider how they approach new parents in vulnerable situations who are doing their very best. Respectful, empathetic care should always come first. No family should be made to feel the way we did. We deserved better and will not be returning.
