"My Late in Life Diagnosis for ADHD"

About: Calgary Foothills PCN Calgary Foothills PCN / Mental Health Team First Choice Medical Center

(as the patient),

I was struggling with many aspects of my mental & Physical Health in 2025.

Initially I went to my Doctor in Cochrane, where I live.

I told her I was struggling with many things , retirement, finances, my work and my relationships all around.

She immediately ordered me to take some time off to relax. Then she had me run a battery of health tests.

Then referred me to a Dr at Calgary Foothills Primary Care Network. Cochrane Branch for Mental Health Consultations.

He runs me through an intake interview where we talked of my concerns.

At the follow up appointment he reveals his findings.

I had ADHD with all the classic symptoms. Anxiety, Depression, Brain Fog, Procrastination, lack of focus and on it goes. I was floored as I am in my late 60’s. My initial reaction was how does this happen to me so late in life?

We talked about how ADHD affects people from all walks of life and all ages. Some are diagnosed and most aren’t and I found this was vey comforting.

So back to my Family Dr and figure out a plan to get my emotions and Mental health back on track with Medications and more Mental Health Support programs at CFPCN.

At this point I am bewildered and sub-consciously angry.

We carry on with trying different doses of different meds. And more sessions with My Dr at CFPCN.

And reading studying everything to do with ADHD.

We talked about my career my relationships and my Mental Health and eventually start group sessions with my wife. That was a game changer because it opened up everything about my / our struggles in dealing with ADHD. It got my wife, myself ,my Dr all on a path to gaining control of my Mental Health.

It was 2025 when this all started. And honestly I was lost in space back then. My journey has not been all smooth.

But, now that we have travelled this far with the support of my amazing Dr at CFPCN and my family Dr at First. Choice Medical I am in a much better place Mentally. Still got a ways to go yet. But I am way better.

I have to commend Dr. Ray at Calgary Foothills Primary Care Network in Cochrane. For his down to earth / fully relatable style of communication.

He is very humble , professional and just cares about me and I imagine all of his clients.

Bravo Dr Ray. Top Notch in my books.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your story with Ray, one of our Behavioral Health Consultants in Cochrane.

We are so pleased to know that you found Ray to be so caring and compassionate, knowledgeable, and such a good communicator. Dealing with a new diagnosis can be very difficult and overwhelming, and it sounds like Ray was there to support you and your wife with your ADHD diagnosis and provided links to resources and tools to help you on your management journey.

Thank you again for taking the time and effort to share such positive feedback, as patient experience means so much to our providers in our primary care network. I will pass this information along to Ray and his manager.

Warm Regards,

Leanne Kiss
