"Accommodating and Helpful Nursing Care Post Hip Surgery"

About: Life Medical Clinic McLeod River PCN - Whitecourt / Family Practice Nursing

(as the patient),

I have had several phone conversations and in person appointments with Nurse Willow from Life Medical Clinic in Whitecourt over the past year. She has always called me back when arranged and took the time to answer my many questions.  I have had 2 hip replacements within a year, which I am still recovering from. I have had to speak with her several times about pain medication and other concerns, requesting she bring it to my doctors' attention if she felt the need to (unless she helped me, which she was able to on more than 1 occasion). I had to have Willow remove my staples from my second surgery, as I could not make it to Hinton due to hazardous road conditions. She got me in the next day at a time that worked for me. She did a great job, no pain, cleaned me up nicely and re bandaged the incision as requested by my surgeon.  I cannot say enough good things about having a nurse at the clinic for quick simple questions or concerns. If Willow felt she could not help, she would speak with my doctor and get back to me. This freed up many appointments for my doctor so they could focus on other patients who needed them more. Also, it has been a real effort to get to appointments after my surgeries, so a phone call was usually all I needed.  I certainly hope that this will be a service kept in place as I believe she is busy. I have had a few other friends who have had contact with her, and they all seem happy with her professional response. Thank you for reading my story.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with Nurse Willow. We truly appreciate hearing from patients about the care they receive, and it is wonderful to know that your interactions with her have been so positive during what sounds like a challenging year of recovery following your hip surgeries.

We are very pleased to hear that Nurse Willow has been responsive, supportive, and attentive to your needs. Ensuring patients receive timely guidance, follow-up calls, and help with concerns such as pain management is an important part of providing safe and compassionate care. It is especially meaningful to hear that she was able to accommodate you promptly for staple removal when travel conditions made it difficult for you to attend your surgical follow-up appointment.

Your comments also highlight an important aspect of team-based care. Having access to a knowledgeable nurse for questions, concerns, and coordination with physicians can help patients receive timely support while allowing physicians to focus on patients who require in-person medical assessments. Feedback like yours helps us understand the value of these services and how they contribute to both patient experience and clinic efficiency.

We will be sure to share your kind words with Nurse Willow and the clinic team. Patient feedback is an important part of our ongoing quality improvement efforts, and it helps us continue to strengthen services that support patients in their recovery and overall health.

Thank you again for sharing your story, and we wish you continued healing and the very best in your recovery.
