"Managing Chronic Joint Pain Using GLA:D Program"

About: SCPCN Wellness Centre South Calgary PCN Wellness Centre / GLA:D Program

(as a service user),

South Calgary Primary Care Network

I had a lot of pain in my lumbar spine, both my knees and my hips.  I was told that this was due to a variety factors, including arthritis.  My mobility was very compromised and I was unable to use NSAIDs or pain killers at all.  With the assistance of the South Calgary Primary Care kinesiologist I was given a series of exercises to do and as well was entered in the Glad: Knees and Hips program.  My mobility increased, my pain lessened, my physical strength increased.  I was booked to be assessed by a knee replacement surgeon.  They determined that I was able to self manage my joints through exercise and did not require a knee replacement.
