"Initial Meeting With a New Family Doctor"

About: Quality Care Medical Centre

(as the patient),

After moving to this community several months ago, my husband and I went to a 'meet and greet' with a family doctor who we had not met before. We had an appointment scheduled earlier but it was rescheduled as the doctor was ill that day.

When the appointment was rescheduled it was made for just one of us. However, when we both showed up, they acknowledged the error and the doctor saw us both for an intake appointment despite only having one person scheduled.

We were pleased with both the appointment, which was very thorough and unrushed and the way the confusion re appointment scheduling was handled.  There were no obvious signs in the waiting room to show membership in a Primary Care Network, but a small document posted referred to the process whereby health information collected would be shared with the PCN.

When I asked about the relationship with the PCN, the doctor explained that they usually referred patients to the PCN if a specific service was needed. The doctor shared that they PCN had an excellent psychiatrist who would take referrals for their patients and do an in-depth assessment and provide advice for future help. That was music to my ears, knowing how hard access to mental health services are!

Thank you for choosing to share your experience of care with us about your "meet and greet" visit with a new family doctor and having your questions answered.

To have an impact in health care, we work to notify all health service providers when a story about their location has been shared with Care Opinion Canada. The provider in your story is not currently active on Care Opinion, so we will be reaching out by email to ask them if they would like to reply. We are not always able to receive a response from a service provider.

Care Opinion Canada gives patients a voice. Your feedback helps improve care for you, your family, & all Albertans.

Regards,
