"Severe Trauma Injury: Feeling Failed by Public Healthcare"

I was seriously injured in a car accident as a child and I believe my injuries were never addressed properly in the public health care system in Alberta.

My head and face have been asymmetrical since the accident (one whole side of my body was severely injured). I was released from hospital and expected to go back to school like nothing was wrong with me the following day.  

Mid Life, I was flagged with severe breathing problems (both my air ways may have been cut off in that accident as a child, which in my opinion, was neglected by the public health system). 

Now, I feel that this health system is treating my trauma injury as cosmetic - even with pictures before and after the accident - they still expect me to pay.  The specialist I was seeing has now closed my files even though I am still having trouble breathing.  I am disgusted, to say the least. In my opinion, it seems like only healthy, wealthy people can get care.
