"Breathing Easier: Counselling for My Trauma and Grief"

About: South Calgary PCN Wellness Centre / Centralized Primary Care Behavioural Health South Calgary PCN Wellness Centre / Time 2 Talk-Mental Health Program

(as the patient),

I lost my spouse at a time when I was trying to resolve some conflicts with them. They were not physically abusive but emotionally they drove me to a brink where I was thinking of suicide. I felt belittled, underestimated, and controlled. Just as I was deciding to go my own way they died unexpectedly. I was left with a feeling of loss. I felt pain to see my children losing a parent. I was scared of the future and I was angry feeling that they left me.

The pain followed me everywhere for over 20 years. I did not seek any help till I realized that even after all this time since the accident - any time I spoke of my spouse, I would start crying. I was still suffering the consequences of how I was treated. So finally, I asked for help and was directed to see a counselor at the Wellness Center where I was seen by the counselor Lila. After less than 10 sessions with her, I feel like I have resolved most of the pain. I feel like some burdens that I was carrying for years have fallen from my shoulders and I breathe easier.
