Alberta Government did not negotiate or talk to eye doctors and issued OPTO 35 reducing reimbursement for optical services, including monitoring of glaucoma and delisting some services. As a result of this reduction, without any consultation, the eye doctors are not being paid enough to cover their costs.
I am very angry as the Canada Health Act indicates there should be no cost for seeing a doctor for a medical condition. My last visit to monitor my glaucoma cost me $80.
